Albert Edward
Pelham, Executive Director. Al is a 1979 graduate of Bloomfield College,
Bloomfield NJ with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He is married
to Audrey Pelham and they have two grown children; Dwayne Jones who is
married and living in Scottsdale, Arizona and Rhonda Fischer who is also
married and living in Atlanta, Georgia. After high school, Al spent three
years in the U.S. Army and joined Prudential Insurance Company, where he
spent 18 years in various roles and departments. After leaving Prudential,
he joined the non-profit world where he has been for the past eight years. Along
with his role in MNDC, Al works on a part time basis with the Statewide
Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN), Inc of New Jersey. SPAN’s mission is to
empower families and inform and involve professionals and other individuals
in the healthy development and educational rights of children. Al is the
Office Systems Manager for SPAN. Al is a graduate of the Montclair Public
Schools system and has been a vocal community activist in Montclair for many
years.
Mrs. Tara Myers,
Assistant to the Executive Director, was born and raised in Montclair, New
Jersey. Tara is a graduate of the Montclair Public School system. After
graduation from Montclair High School, she worked to gain job experience
before attending Katherine Gibbs. Upon graduation from Katherine Gibbs, she
held a full time position at UMNDJ in their medical billing department. In
1996 she became a part time Office Assistant at MNDC at which time she also
became a Notary Public. Eager to learn how the MNDC office operated she
attended every board meeting. Ms. Myers inquisitiveness led her to become
very knowledgeable of the agencies functions and to contribute her ideas, as
a community member, for needed programs. Tara was elected to facilitate a
youth program and help counsel people with substance abuse problems for
which she has received certification. At present Ms. Myers is a mother of
four, has a genuine heart felt concern for today’s youth, holds a position
with the Division of Youth and Family Services and still performs
administrative duties for MNDC. Also, Ms. Myers, herself, has used some of
the programs available through MNDC. She is a very integral part of the
community, working for behavioral changes in youth and adults to interact
positively. Among Ms. Myers other involvements are SPAN, Million Women
Montclair, AMANI, and the Montclair Landlord Tenant Association.
Cynthia
Glenn-Howard, Case Manager, was educated in the East Orange Public
Schools. Following her graduation, Cynthia attended Seton Hall University
where she received her BA in Communications. Cynthia began her social
service career as a case manager for the Head Start Program. There, she was
committed to working with children and families to create family
partnerships, a process that establishes mutual trust and respect,
identifies family goals and strengths, and identifies the necessary services
and support needed to ensure family improvement. She continued her
commitments to the social service field and supporting families through work
for other agencies including Main Street Counseling in West Orange, NJ and
Family Connection in Orange, NJ. Cynthia has provided therapeutic in-home
services to children, adolescents and families through Creative Consulting
Services, Inc. of Manalapan, NJ. Cynthia believes that to be an effective
social worker in today’s turbulent environment, it is critical to obtain
advanced education, skills and training in order to deal with the serious
tribulations facing families. She is currently completing the accelerated
two year MSW program at Rutgers University. Cynthia is the proud mother of
three, she holds a New Jersey Real Estate license and is a member of the
Sister Coalition and The New Jersey League of Voters.
Angela
Chavis, Administrative Assistant. Angela
moved to Montclair in 1992
and graduated from Montclair High School in 1996. Upon graduation she
attended the Cittone Institute where she received her degree in business
administration and management. Through the Cittone programs she developed
practical computer skills and valuable administrative competence. With this
educational background and her work experience Angela brings a most
professional bearing to MNDC.
