Charles
L. Smith III, Chairman, is a lifelong resident of Montclair. Mr. Smith
is an accomplished communications and public relations professional and an
entrepreneur with an established reputation for building effective
communications campaigns. He has worked with Black Enterprise Magazine,
Coca-Cola USA, Acco-Babcock Industries, Jersey City Power & Light, Sea-Land
Services, and as an independent production consultant. He currently is
employed by Comcast as director of government and community affairs for the
Northern New Jersey Area. He was elected to the Montclair Township Council
and served two terms 1996-2004. He serves on the Mountainside Hospital
Community Benefits Committee, is past president of the Men of Essex, served
as president of the North Jersey Chapter of the National Hampton University
Alumni Association from 1996-1998, and served as Treasurer and Board Member
of the Northwest Essex Community Healthcare Network. Mr. Smith earned his
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Media Arts from Hampton University in 1974,
was named Alumni of the Year in Mass Media by Hampton University in 1989 and
was elected as an honorary member of Kappa Tau Alpha. Mr. Smith is a member
of Trinity Episcopal Church and resides in Montclair with spouse, Quinta.
Their son, Justin, resides in North Carolina.
Gilray D.
Brown, Sr, Vice Chairman, is a lifetime resident of Montclair. He is
known as a hard worker, entrepreneur, mentor, and volunteer contributor to
many local non-profit organizations. Gil has been employed since he was old
enough to work. He held his first job at age 9, using his wagon to pick up
and deliver linen for a neighborhood laundry. He worked at the Claremont
Service Center, a plumbing supply house, and managed a truck repair terminal
before being drafted into the U.S. Army and serving in Korea and Vietnam as
an ordinance technician. He retired from the General Motors assembly plant
in Linden, New Jersey in 1990. While still employed, working the night shift
at General Motors, Gill started his own business, G.D. Brown Contractors in
1979. He has trained young men in the general contracting business who are
currently working independently. Gil worked with the United Way “Day of
Caring”, helping to remove trash and rubbish from Mission Street, saved the
Hollow Day Care Center substantial cost by installing an outdoor play mat on
the playground, cleared the garden areas for HOMECorp residents' use, and
constructed games for the HOMECorp Community Day Festival. He also organized
and fabricated games for the Police Athletic League, and served on a
committee to obtain and install a heating system for Day Nurseries. He does
volunteer work for the Neighborhood Child Care Center and is treasurer on
the board of Million Man Montclair.
David Cummings
is a long time member of the Montclair
Community. A product of the Montclair Public School system, David graduated
from Montclair High School in 1985. He went on to Morehouse College in
Atlanta, Ga., where he graduated with a Communications Degree in 1989. David
developed his professional career in sports journalism working with The
Dispatch in Lexington, NC, the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, MS, The New York
Times, the Daily News, The Source (a monthly Hip-Hop magazine) and The
Herald in Miami. Currently, he is a Deputy Editor at ESPN THE MAGAZINE where
he is responsible for the Basketball, Boxing and the Lifestyle sections of
the magazine. Prior to becoming Deputy Editor, David was the NBA editor and
NFL editor. In his career, David has covered numerous NBA All-Star Games,
NBA Finals, World Series, Super Bowls and NCAA Final Fours and many
championship fights. He is the Vice President of Print for the
National Association of Black Journalists Sports Task Force. He is married
to Kimberly, and they have three children, David Jr., Elizabeth and
Katherine. David Jr. and Elizabeth attend Nishuane and Katherine is in the
toddler program at Head Start. Being on the board of MNDC is an honor he
cherishes because as a kid MNDC played a vital role in David's upbringing in
the 4th Ward of Montclair.

The
Rev. A. Craig Dunn was born and raised in Montclair, NJ. Upon
graduating from Montclair High School and the receipt of a football
scholarship, he attended Villanova University in Villanova, Pa. He graduated
from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication
in 1983. In 1998, he was awarded the Master’s of Divinity Degree from Drew
University in Madison. Rev. Dunn under the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. V.
DuWayne Battle became a licensed preacher in September 1991 at the St. Paul
Baptist church in Montclair, NJ. In January 1998 Rev. Dunn was ordained at
the New Hope Baptist Church in East Orange, NJ. In the fall of 2002, Rev.
Dunn returned to Drew Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing a
Master of Sacred Theology Degree (STM). He is currently employed by The New
York Times as the National Sales Director, Education where he works with
school administrators and educational service agencies across the country.
Rev. Dunn has a deep concern for young people and is the recipient of
numerous awards. He is a member of the National Association of Minority
Media Executives, and the American Association of Christian Counselors, and
the Alban Institute. Rev. Dunn also serves on the Board of Directors of the
Neighborhood Child Development Center and Trinity Temple Church of God in
Christ Community Development Corporation.
Edward L. Pelham
and his wife Erica are life long residents of Montclair. They both were
educated in the Montclair Public School system. They have been married for
five years and they don't have any children. Ed attended North Carolina
Central University and Essex County College. Ed has been employed by the
same employer for 21 years. In 1984 he started his professional career with
Prudential Insurance Company. In 1998 Prudential Healthcare was acquired by
Aetna, Inc in Cranbury, NJ were in presently works. He supervises the
workflow management in the New Issue Enrollment Department. He manages the
initial data entry for ID Card production between Maine and Virginia. Ed has
always volunteered his time towards mentoring young men while participating
as a basketball coach or as a friend who understands. He deeply wants to
give the same opportunity to the young adults in the Montclair community
just as it provided to him while growing up in town.
Dr. Jeanne P.
Pryor is the Assistant Superintendent for the Montclair Public Schools.
Employed in the district since 1990, she has also served as an Assistant
Principal, Acting Principal, and Assistant to the Superintendent. Before
coming to Montclair, Dr. Pryor served as a School Program Coordinator and an
Educational Specialist/Supervisor for the New Jersey State Department of
Education for ten years. She began her teaching career in the Carteret
Public Schools in the early 1970's. Dr. Pryor completed her undergraduate
work in education at Boston University and received a master’s degree at
both Tufts University and Columbia University. She completed her doctoral
studies at Columbia University in 1991. Dr. Pryor has made presentations to
local, regional, national, and international audiences. She recently
represented the Montclair Public School District as a featured speaker at
the University of Oxford in England.
Frank
J. Rennie retired as School Principal after 30 years of service. He is a
graduate of Seton Hall University with a BS and Newark State College with an
MA. He serves on the board of the Salvation Army, is a member of the
Montclair Mentoring Partnership, a member of the United Way Panel and
Working Groups, and is a coordinator of the After School Program of the
Unitarian Church. Frank was a charter member of the First Night Montclair
1991-1996, Montclair Vice President of the Unitarian Church 1992-1997,
Montclair Farmers Market set up 1992-1993, board member of Day Nurseries
Inc. 2003-2005, and Court Appointed Special Advocate serving 6 years as
Treasurer.
Lawrence
(Larry) T. Richardson is a lifelong resident of Montclair and graduate
of Montclair High School. He served in the U.S. Navy 1943-1946 and received
an Honorable Discharge as Specialist A-2nd Class. Larry retired as Supervisor in Chemical Production
from Hoffmann La Roche after thirty years of service. He has been a Sergeant
at Arms for the New Jersey Senate – serving one year as supervisor. He
served two terms on the Montclair Township Council for the fourth ward, was
Assistant Director of Project WHO Drug Rehab & Youth Service Bureau, past
Board Member of NAAC, past member of the Glenfield School Task Force. Larry has
been active in the Montclair community for many years – coached Little
League Baseball, served as President of Little League Baseball in Montclair,
coached Pop Warner Football, coached Men’s League Basketball at Washington
Street Branch YMCA, past Masonic Mason, Eureka Lodge #52, and past
Superintendent of Trinity Presbyterian Church Sunday School.
William A.
(Bucky) Schnarr has lived in Montclair since 1971. He
has over 35 years of experience providing Information Technology solutions
and business leadership with New York Telephone, AT&T, Bell Laboratories, and NCR. He retired from AT&T in 1995.
Currently, he owns a management consulting firm, Symbiotics, and in the past
several years has been a Professor at Montclair State University’s School of
Business. Bucky is past Chairman of Urban Tech (a nonprofit corporation dedicated
to preparing inner-city communities across the country for full
participation in the information age,) partner in MontclairTEAM (a local,
community collaboration addressing the digital divide,) Board member of the
United Way of North Essex, and Technology advisor to Global Learning, Inc.
(a non-profit educational organization.) He is a past Councilor-At-Large, Montclair Township Council.
Bucky holds a BS degree in physics from Stevens Institute of Technology and an MBA in marketing from Columbia Graduate School of
Business.
