David
Cummings attended Nishuane, Hillside, Glenfield Middle School and
graduated from Montclair High School in 1985. He was a three-year varsity
letter winner in basketball and also played one year of varsity football. In
basketball, he was a part of two Essex County Tournament champion teams. In
football, he was selected First-Team All-Essex by the Newark Star-Ledger and
First-Team All-Conference by the Herald News.David has been on the board of MNDC since May 2004. It is an honor he cherishes because as a kid MNDC played a vital role in David's upbringing in the 4th Ward of Montclair. David's first trip to a professional sporting event was a field trip to Shea Stadium for a Mets game sponsored by MNDC. He can recall many trips during the summer to the Jersey Shore, amusement parks and museums. But his fondest memory of MNDC was the creation of the Montclair Community Action Program (MCAP), which provided jobs for youths in the town as well as a summer basketball league. David played in the league and was coached by current MNDC Executive Director, Albert Pelham (Alpine) when he was 10-years old. Serving on this board gives David the chance to give back to the youngsters and elders in the community he loves. |
